My faithful camera has given kai. Gone kaput. All I have now is my trusty mobile camera. It isn’t so bad, y’know?

I seriously think there should be photography courses for folks with point-and-shoot cameras. Sure, these cameras have lesser capabilities, but there are more number of people who possess these than folks who possess DSLRs. Even more so if you count the number of smartphone cameras. Sure it might not be the best idea to talk about all those jingchak photography terms that suddenly don’t come to mind now, but you can certainly teach people how to use white balance, how to frame shots, how to shoot in bad light, how to avoid blurring…. most people don’t take time off to shoot, it’s more of an on-the-fly thing, and instead of all the lame stuff that takes ages to master, teaching basics would go a long, long way.

Went walking around a part of campus I usually don’t walk through. The place looks lovely before the sun sets! The houses are beautiful. And you can look at the football field and the lights.

So was cooped up at home the week before Christmas because it was raining cats and dogs and I didn’t want to step into poodles.

So when the sun showed signs of peeking out, I visited Laguna Beach and Dana Point Harbour along with God and The Artist. We intended it to be a photowalk, but my camera gave kai. Thankfully God has the same model as I do, and turns out, it’s so much more fun when photography is done by three people instead of just one! And never has learning about the Rule Of Thirds been more fun.

I think we went to the wrong part of the coast along Dana Point because we were quite bored with the place soon and headed towards the more familiar environs of Laguna.

Laguna beach is much much more beautiful than I remember it last. Just check out the above image!

And then this Flickr set.

The thing is, it’s too much of a pain to upload 40-50 images at one shot to WordPress than it is to upload the same number of images to Flickr. And I’m finding it hard to post one-image-a-day, as is convenient for blogging. Instead, when I head out to the sea or the big city or wherever, I end up taking a bunch of pictures and if I don’t upload them all at one shot, there seems to be very little point to putting them online. It’s also true that I won’t get so many views of each photo if I put them on a blog… browsing through all the 40-50 images is a pain for anybody, and most people will give up after 4 or 5 images. And those viewing through a feedreader would rather mark it all as read, like I am wont to do.

I find Flickr very convenient, except that I can’t get my original-sized images unless I upgrade to a pro account (which is SUCH a waste of money for a non-serious Flickr user like me). Maybe I should switch to Picasa, but the uploading and viewing interface is much less awesome than Flickr’s is.

I find it defeats the purpose to upload to flickr and then post from flickr to WordPress… it is, if anything, worse because the images will be much smaller than their original size.

Also, albums are better on Flickr because you can group and arrange the images together, and view them in chronological order, which requires too much effort in WordPress to do well.

So when I have a few images here and there, I’ll post them directly on this blog. When I have a whole album to upload, I’ll upload it on Flickr. And post the link to the album on this blog, along with a few images.

It was tiger conservation month or something.

And at this point my camera gave out. But it didn’t matter, I suppose.
All in all, I had heckuva load of fun tramping around Singapore all alone, travelling all by myself halfway round the world.
I was reasonably cautious, and tramped around with my entire hand baggage strapped to my back, and it took me two full days to recover from that. The sad bit about being cautious is, I didn’t trust anyone around me with my camera, and sadly there are no pics of me anywhere in this set.
Whatever, I had fun. Much more than on the return trip. But that’s another story

Some stamps are made just for art’s sake.
This one here was made for some International Art Festival being held at Singapore.
It has perforations such that it can be split into four smaller stamps.
